'We have the appropriate number of teams and the appropriate number of people working on products', claims Rubin

THQ ‘will not continue to layoff staff’

Embattled publisher THQ will not continue to lay off its development staff, the company’s new president has claimed.

Speaking to Joystiq, Jason Rubin said he felt THQ now had an adequate and sustainable number of studios, although the nature of their projects could change over time.

"We have the appropriate number of teams and the appropriate number of people working on products, and we’re not going to be continuing to cut teams," he said.

"But as far as product goes, I think we’ll have to find out exactly where that’s going."

Despite claiming the publisher would not be making any more layoffs, Rubin admitted that during the next month he would have to decide which titles would be suitable for continued development in future.

"I’m well aware of the other projects that are kind of in what you would call ‘nebulous states’ (though internally they may not be so nebulous)," he said.

"I have to go around and look at everything over the next few weeks, next month, and I have to then decide which of the titles are the titles we’re gonna focus on based on what I believe our future should be."

THQ has laid off a number of its staff in the last few months as it looks to secure its future, most recently closing its San Diego office after selling the Ultimate Fighting Championship franchise to EA.
