Torres to front PES 2010

Konami has secured the services of Spanish international footballing star and leading Liverpool forward Fernando Torres as the face of its upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

Torres will join forces with Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi as the pair form the basis of the game’s marketing creatives in the run up to the autumn release in Europe.

Everyone knows that when it comes to football simulation, Konami’s PES series is by far the most realistic title available,” Torres himself commented. The new game looks absolutely stunning, and I look forward to seeing myself in action in PES 2010.”

The publisher has also revealed some more details about its title. Triangulation of passes and use of off-the-ball runs are apparently now key to breaking down the opposition – Konami says ‘soft’ goals, if PES every suffered from such a thing, have now been eradicated.

The individuality of players has always been one the series’ most polished elements, and Konami now says this feature has been pushed to even greater levels. There’s also a greater level of tactical possibilities when the game is in mid-flow.

As previously confirmed, the Master League now boasts the licenses of both the Champions League and the Europa League (formally known as the UEFA Cup). Established commentary duo Jon Champion and Mark Lawrenson also return.

PES European team leader Jon Murphy added: Fernando Torres has established himself as one of the most exciting strikers in the game. He encapsulates everything that is good about the modern game, showcasing both pace, skill and vision – three elements that play a major part in PES 2010 as a football simulation.”
