Ubisoft gets into the spirit of things with cheeky response to PETA moan

Bravo, Ubisoft, bravo.

The publisher has issued a quite wonderful reply to the accusations thrown at it by PETA earlier this week.

The animal rights group lashed out at the SEO-friendly Assassin’s Creed IV on Tuesday for, what it believes is, the glorification” of whaling.

(Although we don’t think there have yet been any reported cases of gamers downing their joypads, commandeering fishing vessels, getting amongst it on the waves and slaughtering marine life?)

Ubisoft, however, argues that game glorifies whaling no more than it does the poor health effects of a life on the seven seas.

History is our playground in Assassin’s Creed,” a statement issued to VentureBeat read. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the Golden Era of Pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don’t condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the-legal-limit drunken debauchery.”

The last part of that statement is very ominous for journos looking forward to the next Ubisoft product launch….
