Classic board games will appear on next-gen platforms

Ubisoft to bring Hasbro games to consoles

Hasbro and Ubisoft has stuck a deal that will see the toy company’s board game licences arrive on next generation consoles.

Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Risk, Battleship, and Cranium are all Hasbro properties and with the increasing popularity of board games it makes sense for the company to either port the games to as many platforms as possible.

"Hasbro makes games that we all know and love, and we’re thrilled to be able to work with them to create video game experiences based on some of their most popular brands," said Ubisoft’s SVP of sales and marketing Tony Key.

In 2008 Hasbro signed a similar deal with EA that put several of its games brands on mobile, social, and console game platforms.

Hasbro recently announced a deal with Rovio to make Skylanders-style toys for the Angry Birds Star Wars games, and just last month the company bought a majority share of game studio Backflip.

“The acquisition of Backflip fits perfectly into our strategy of extending our brands into all forms and formats," said Hasbro president and CEO Brian Goldner at the time.
