Red Barrel already at work on horror game Outlast

Ubisoft vets form new studio

A number of veterans of triple-A development have formed a new studio named Red Barrels.

Based in Montreal, Red Barrels is made up of founders Philippe Morin, David Chateauneuf and Hugo Dallaire, who bring with them art, design and development experience from a number of high profile console games including Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell.

The studio will focus on single player downloadable games, and is set to deliver titles that take the player on ’emotional and unforgettable’ journies.

"Our team has a lot of previous experience creating big, blockbuster games," said Chateauneuf. "We’re all really excited to see what kind of fear-based emotional rollercoaster we can build on our own!"

The team’s first game is already underway. Titled Outlast, the horror game is set in an abandoned asylum.

“There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them,” said Morin.

More information is available on Red Barrel’s official website.
