UK CHART: SoulCalibur IV debuts at No.1

Ubisoft and Namco Bandai’s SoulCalibur IV has hit the top spot in the official ChartTrack/ELSPA All Formats in its debut week.

The title – which contains playable Star Wars characters – represents the first All Formats No.1 for the SoulCalibur franchise since SoulCalibur II, which was released on GameCube, PS2 and Xbox back in September 2003.

The beat ‘em-up was released on Xbox 360 and PS3, with 56 per cent of sales coming on Microsoft’s console.

However, Nintendo put up a good fight; despite dropping down to No.2, Wii Fit sales rise 35 per cent on last week and sales of Mario Kart Wii are up 25 per cent at No.3.

THQ’s Wall-E drops two places to No.4 as sales slow three weeks after the release of the film. But it’s not all bad news for the publisher – with a strong showing from the hardware-bundled Big Beach Sports, up from No.10 to No.5.

Former No.1 Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures moves in the opposite direction, down from fifth position to No.10.

The full ChartTrack/ELSPA All Formats top ten for the week ending August 2nd, 2008 reads:

1) SoulCalibur IV – Ubisoft/Namco Bandai
2) Wii Fit – Nintendo
3) Mario Kart – Nintendo
4) Wall-E – THQ
5) Big Beach Sports – THQ
6) Guitar Hero: On Tour – Activision
7) Wii Play – Nintendo
8) Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games – Sega
