UPDATE: Layoffs confirmed at Capcom Vancouver, studio still hiring

Capcom Vancouver has confirmed its parted ways with a portion of its staff, adding that the studio is in no danger of shutting down.

The Dead Rising 2 developerspoke upon Twitter after reports started swirling around its potential demise. The firm has cut 20 members of staff from its studio.

To paraphrase Mark Twain – the reports of our death are greatly exaggerated,” a Capcom Vancouver rep posted.

Capcom Vancouver has let go [seven per cent] of our employees as a result of unsuitable fit with the studio goals. We’re still growing and aggressively seeking great talent.”

The studio would not expound on how the described ‘unsuitable fit with studio goals’ actually pertained to the layoffs.

UPDATE: Capcom has released the following statement: "Capcom Vancouver has laid off 20 staff as part of its regular periodic assessment of overall studio goals. The studio is actively hiring talented staff to support its goal of delivering high quality games."
