US: Consumers predict increased games spending

Leading US statistics body NPD has found that the majority of North American gamers say that they expect to spend more on their hobby this year than they did in 2008.

Numbers in the recent Entertainment Trends in America report state that 65 per cent of the 10,000 people questioned claimed that they would be spending more, or at least the same, amount on games in the 12 months ahead.

Even in the face of a down economy, entertainment remains a popular spending category,” NPD’s Russ Crupnick stated.

There is anxiety about the economy among entertainment buyers but consumers have clearly shown that compelling content will get them back into the stores or theatres.”
