Nintendo posts best Q1 since 2012

Wii U lifetime sales surpass 10m

Nintendo has sold more than ten million Wii Us since its launch in November 2012.

The console giant posted its biggest Q1 since 2012 after net sales hit £466.7m for the three months ending June 30th. Operating income meanwhile climbed to £5.94m, up from a loss during the same period last year of nearly £49m. Overall profits for the quarter stood at £42.8m.

Nintendo sold just over 1m 3DS handhelds during the last quarter to help boost its sales. Software sales also reached 7.92 for the platform.

Wii U outing Splatoon has performed well following its release in May, with the new IP selling 1.62m copies by June 30th. The Wii U sold 470,000 units, while 4.55m games were sold for the console.

No numbers were given for Amiibo sales, though Nintendo called them “favourable”.
