Reggie discusses App Store ‘risk’

With the 3DS looking to hike the accepted High Street RRP of handheld gaming software when it launches in the UK next month, Nintendo of America president has attacked the low-price mentality promoted by Apple’s App Store.

I actually think that one of the biggest risks today in our industry are these inexpensive games that are candidly disposable from a consumer standpoint," Reggie Fils-Aime told GameTrailers TV.

"Angry Birds is a great piece of experience but that is one compared to thousands of other pieces of content that for one or two dollars I think create a mentality for the consumer that a piece of gaming content should only be $2.

"I actually think some of those games are overpriced at one or two dollars but that’s a whole different story."

Reggie went on to contrast the "fully-fledged" 3DS launch title Steel Diver with the typical titles available for Apple’s range of devices.

Nintendo confirmed last month that the 3DS e-portal will miss the console’s March launch and will not be ready until around May.
