Reports point to GameCube Virtual Console titles on Switch

Nintendo fans will be given the opportunity to re-buy their GameCube catalogue for the first time with Virtual Console emulation of the system on Switch.

That’s according to Eurogamer, which says that GameCube support is already up and running on the new console with working versions of Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Smash Bros Melee.

Animal Crossing is also said to be in testing, including working versions of the NES titles that can be accessed within the game. Support for Wii U’s GameCube controller adapter is also being considered.

Development of GameCube emulation is apparently being headed up by NERD (Nintendo European Research and Development), which was the team behind the successful NES Classic Mini.

Some sort of upgrade plan should also be offered, the site added.

Nintendo is an expert at repackaging the reselling its rich catalogue of titles. The ability to play GameCube games on its new system would appeal strongly to the company’s loyal fanbase, certainly.
