Australian retailer apologises for bungled sale

Electronics retailer Dick Smith has apologised to customers after running a sale with little stock, by slashing the price of its games.

The Australian company angered gamers with its sale – which offered Xbox 360s for as little as AUD$99 and PS3s for AUD$199 – after many discovered its stores were already sold out of a large amount of promised items.

Customers left hundreds of negative comments on the Dick Smith Facebook page, prompting Dick Smith to apologise. It is now extending its sale by cutting 30 per cent off the price of games and accessories until this Sunday, April 15th.

A statement on the Dick Smith website read: Due to the unauthorised leaking of an internal price list last week, our Game On Sale has exceeded expectations. As our Game On Sale continues this week, we would like to inform our customers that stock is selling faster than expected.

"We thank you for your patience and continued support and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

As a gesture of goodwill, in addition to the Game on Sale event, we will now be offering extend the offer to include 30 per cent off gaming software and accessories until Sunday, April 15th. Please note that this excludes all gaming consoles, digital cards ad already advertised catalogue lines in our Game On brochure.”
