GAME bucks trend with record results

GAME Group has posted encouraging gains in both turnover and profit during its preliminary results for the year ended 31 January 2009.

Group turnover reached 1.97bn for the period, an impressive 32 per cent gain on the 1.49bn achieved in the same period last year.

At the same time the company managed to produce a striking 67 per cent increase in profit before taxation and non-recurring costs, at 126.2m; an impressive result taken in the context of the wider economic climate. Gross profit margin was also up slightly too, from 24.8 per cent to 26.2.

Game Group Chairman Peter Lewis said that current trading performance was ahead of expectations, and reported that the company board is confident in the outlook for the year to 31 January 2010.

He added that GAME’s basic earnings per share before non-recurring costs in the last four years have increased by an annual average of over 44 per cent.
