GAME Oxford Street could close its doors

While Game Retail Limited, the new owner of retailer GAME, appears in good health, the future looks less certain for its flagship Oxford Street Store in London.

The Telegraph reports that the outlet could be forced to close its doors after the landlord, Lazari GP, won a court order last Friday which grants it the power to send in bailiffs and drill out the locks.

The dispute hinges on the fact that Lazari is still owed 100,000 in overdue rent payments . GAME Group administrator PwC has refused to pay the bill, arguing that it only became responsible for the store the day after the rent was due.

And new owner Game Retail Limited, of course, claims that it is not liable – although administrator PwC says that it no longer has a economic interest”, placing responsibility purely at OpCapita’s feet.

Now Lazari wants to move new tenants into the property and has been granted the legal power to evict Game Retail’s staff and operations from the premises.
