GameStop accused of recording personal data

A class action complaint has been filed against GameStop after the US retail giant was accused of recording the personal information of its customers.

The suit was filed by California resident Melissa Arechiga, who claimed a GameStop store kept her name, credit card, and other personal identification information after she purchased items, according to IGN.

Arechiga claims GameStop uses the details taken during a transaction to access personal information, such as residential addresses.

The suit reads: Defendants’ employee made no attempt to erase, strikeout, eliminate or otherwise delete Plaintiff’s personal identification information from the electronic cash register after the Plaintiff’s credit card number was recorded.”

Her suit has asked the court to stop GameStop from using its policy that requests and records customer information and award anyone previously affected whatever he or she is entitled to.
