Growing Grainger guns for retail pros

The UK’s only growing games chain is on the hunt for senior retail experts to cement itself as the second-largest specialist.

Grainger Games opened its 49th store yesterday (Thursday, January 27th). If you include its website it now operates out of 50 outlets.

Its growth is being led by retail guru Jonathan Fellows, who oversaw expansion for Thorntons, Holland & Barrett and Bonmarch.

He’s been quiet about Grainger so far, but breaks his silence this week in an exclusive MCV interview.

From my experience at other value retailers, the business will need to invest in support functions to underpin the new store growth,” said Fellows.

He wants to fill multiple senior positions to ensure the company keeps growing, including a website manager plus a logistics and distribution manager – and, most importantly, a commercial director.

The firm is also reaching out to struggling independents to boost its store staff headcount.

Those retailers that do decide not to continue may see Grainger Games as their natural future home,” added Fellows.
