HMV footfall spikes in wake of administration

HMV has seen its footfall reach ‘near Christmas levels’ in recent weeks, following news of the retailer’s administration.

The increased publicity – plus the company’s Blue Cross Sale – has resulted in a surge of nostalgia, which has seen consumers return to HMV stores.

Meanwhile, Retail-Week is reporting that Hilco – the firm that owns HMV Canada and now controls HMV UK’s debt – could be interested in acquiring the Jessops brand.

The firm is reportedly interested in launching Jessops concessions within HMV stores.

Hilco UK is currently the favourite to acquire some or all of HMV’s stores. The firm runs HMV Canada, which actually increased its sales in 2012. The restructuring specialist bought HMV Canada for 2m in June 2011.

It is hoped the firm can repeat a similar turnaround for the UK chain.
