Holographic TVs in homes by 2017

Researchers at the University of Arizona have developed a new technology that can provide the fastest moving hologram image ever produced – and they predict the tech will be refined enough for use in the home within seven to ten years.

3DRadar reports that the device uses 16 cameras focused on a special plastic screen that can retain information to create the illusion of 3D depth. Sadly, however, the display still requires the use of a screen to be viewed.

Currently it’s only able to refresh the image at a rate of once every two seconds, but the team predicts this will rapidly improve.

It is very, very close to reality,” physicist Nasser Peyghambarian of the University of Arizona in Tucson noted. Something that was science fiction is something we can do today.”
