Nvidia gets into console gaming with Project Shield

Graphics technology giant Nvidia is getting into the console space with Project Shield, which it unveiled at CES.

The Tegra 4-powered device can be used either as a handheld or it can be hooked up to a PC via HDMI.

The console features twin-sticks, face buttons, a d-pad, a flip-open 5-inch 720p screen, an SD card slot for cellular connection, and a bass reflex integrated audio system.

The device runs on Android and while it is capable of playing games purchased from your Google Play account, you can also stream games from your PC onto the device.

According to Forbes, Project Shield will hit stores in Q2 2013”, but no price has been revealed.
