Operation Flashpoint 2 finally breaks cover

Codemasters has confirmed Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising will be released on consoles this summer.

Previously announced as a PC-only title, the publisher has revealed Xbox 360 and PS3 versions also be released, presumably alongside the PC edition.

The game is a sequel to the hugely popular 2001 FPS title, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. Dragon Rising has been built on Codemasters’ EGO engine, the same tech that powered driving hits Colin McRae DiRT and Race Driver Grid.

In a statement, the game’s senior producer Brant Nicholas said: The advantage of investing in our own technology is that we can custom-build major engine components specifically suited to each title, such as dynamically lit particle effects for gunfire and explosion, incredible vehicle detail and extensive worlds that you can literally get lost in.”
