PEGI – the Pan-European Game Information age rating system – has launched a free iPhone app that allows users to view ratings on the move.
It’s designed to help parents make informed buying decisions on video games with a series of PEGI age and content labels. These inform the buyer of the game’s content which may include bad language, gambling, violence and more.
The app – available on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – allows users to search over 14,000 games, offers consumer advice and explains all the labels.
PEGI SA MD Simon Little said: We hope that this free app can give the PEGI system a boost in awareness among consumers, especially parents.”
PEGI was setup in 2003 and replaced a range of national age ratings with a single system now used in 30 European countries.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) used to be the legal body for age ratings on video games, but PEGI replaced it as the UK’s sole classification system by law last year.
