PS4: Sony to make separate release date announcement for India, Middle East

PlayStation 4 release dates for India and the Middle East will be part of a separate announcement, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan has told MCV.

Asked by Christopher Dring from our sister publication MCV UK about a PS4 release date for India and the Middle East region, Ryan said, That is going to be the subject of a separate announcement. We are not saying anything bad, but we are not saying that they are going to come before Christmas. It is just going to be the subject of a separate announcement.”

Ryan’s response is in line with what we were toldyesterdayby PlayStation India country manager Atindriya Bose, who said that a 2013 launch for India wasn’t certain, but stopped short of ruling it out.

So [I] cannot confirm 2013 immediately as that is almost within a month of the EU launch date. With country logistics and certain regulatory requirements, it looks a pretty tight call,” Bose said.

Ryan did, however, hint that the list of countries that would get the PS4 this year could exceed the 32 that have been announced; he just didn’t know which ones. He also took a jibe at Xbox One’s comparatively modest launch plans.

We have 32 countries on the slate, I think that compares pretty well competitively. There are a lot of pretty major markets in Europe that won’t see Xbox One before Christmas. I can look you or anybody in the eye and say our coverage is going to be good. But exactly how far we are able to go beyond the 32, I don’t yet know,” he said.

Sony announced at Gamescom that the PS4 would launch in North America on 15th November and Europe and Latin America on 29th November.
