Sony’s ambitious online first-person shooter MAG has debuted at No.1 in the PlayStation 3 charts.

Given its multiplayer only focus, the game’s success is a testament to how prolific online functionality has become in games.

MAG knocks Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 off the top spot, making this the first week that Activision Blizzard’s best-selling shooter has been lower than No.1 since the beginning of the year.

MAG also made an impressive debut in the All Formats Top 40, launching in fourth. It was pipped to the post by ongoing sales of Just Dance and Modern Warfare 2, and the release of Mass Effect 2.
