Rising Star ‘won’t abandon retail’

It may have launched a new digital label, but Rising Star has no plans to ditch boxed product.

The firm says it is about to announce the first of four new iOS-only games, with the first title due to arrive at Easter, under the publisher’s new Rising Star Games Digital brand.

Yet MD Martin Defries told MCV that retail games will still make up the bulk of its revenues.

This is not a case of switching off one and going to the other,” he said. We don’t see digital income replacing like-for-like what we are receiving from our packaged business.

What Rising Star has to do in 2012 and beyond is build a business that is complementary, that operates in physical and digital markets. We won’t switch off package and go to digital, but neither will we ignore digital.”
