Software Sales Monitor: Market jumps 36%

It was a big week for the UK games market, with the total value up by 36 per cent to 39.1m, and unit sales up by 31 per cent to 1,300,858.

The reason for the sales surge? Battlefield 3. The game is now the tenth fastest-selling game in Chart-Track history, and the most successful Battlefieldlaunch to date.

Electronic Arts’ latest first-person shooter did so well, it outsold the week one performances of all previous Battlefield games combined. That’s 17 individual releases in total.

The blockbusters that will be included in next week’s sales data include Sony’s Uncharted 3, Sega’s Sonic Generations and Activision’s Goldeneye 007: Reloaded.
