UK games retail generated £10.45m last week

The launch of Prototype 2 helped the boxed market rise slightly over the prior week, with overall unit sales up five per cent to 441,401 games sold.

It’s Activision’s first No.1 of the year.

UK games retail generated 10.45m overall from sales last week – an increase of eight per cent. Several titles saw a small increase in unit sales such as Saints Row: The Third, which re-entered the Top 10 following a 15 per cent sales rise.

There was another lack of new releases last week as Prototype 2 was the only new entry in the charts. And today (Friday, May 4th) is a similarly quiet release day. The biggest releases are 505 Games’ war shooter Sniper Elite V2 and Frogster’s PC MMO Tera.

Several other recently released games dipped in sales last week. These included Kinect Star Wars which saw sales drop 22 per cent, The Witcher 2 – Enchanced Edition which fell 73 per cent and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 which dipped 12 per cent.
