Video games will benefit from John Lewis store drive

John Lewis wants to open 21 more stores, and that could be good news for the games industry.

The department store’s brand director Peter Ruis said at a retail summit last week: We need new shops, we don’t have enough. We’re not in the places we need to be.We need 60 shops and we’ll probably get there by 2018 with a bit of luck.”

It currently has 39 shops.

John Lewis’ games buyer Robert Hennessy told MCV that the firm will be actively driving video games sales with its new outlets, should the next generation of consoles do what is expected and lift the market.

More stores means more games departments,” he told MCV.If the next generation of games consoles ignites the market, we will be there working with brands to drive sales.”
