Wii U titles to launch retail and digital on day one

Nintendo has stated that first party Wii U games will be available to buy digitally on the same day that they are released at retail.

It’s a big move for the typically internet-shy platform holder and one that places even more pressure on the already squeezed retail sector.

We will start the digital download sales of packaged software so our consumers can choose either the packaged version or the digital download version of the same software from day one of the Wii U’s launch,” president Satoru Iwata told investors.”

The exec has also confirmed that while Wii U will be showcased at E3 the company will not announce a price or release date for the machine until later in the year.
