Rockstar developing cutting-edge engine for next-gen – report

Rockstar North is hiring for what appears to be work on an engine designed for current and next generation platforms.

Job listings spotted by NowGamer indicate that the Grand Theft Auto V developer is looking to create a cutting-edge engine.

The studio is seeking an experienced programmer to focus on core engine development.”

[The job] is an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge architectures and high performance systems for current and next-gen platforms,” the listing reads.

Another listing advertises for a physics programmer that has prior experience driving and developing a physics engine,” adding that the candidate hired will be creating cutting-edge physics and collision systems.”

The openings have likely nothing directly to do with GTA V, which we’ve already learned will launch on current-gen consoles. However, the focus on a new or upgraded engine from the studio could easily be related to a future entry in the GTA series, or other Rockstar franchises for that matter.
