ShopTo gives Kinect £129.99 RRP

Online indie retailer ShopTo has become the first portal to put a price on the Xbox 360 Kinect motion controller in the UK – and if correct, it seems that Microsoft has well and truly ditched previous plans to keep the price low.

ShopTo has placed a hefty 129.99 RRP on the device, though is offering pre-orders at 124.86.

The news will come as a blow to UK retailers who have previously insisted that the device must come in at somewhere below 100 if it hopes to have the sort of market impact that Microsoft will surely be hoping for.

Seeing as Xbox 360 consoles themselves can currently be found at or around the 130 mark, it’s a steep price for a single accessory.

In November last year MCV learned that Microsoft was planning an ultra-competitive sub-50 price for the device, but it seems that its commitment to price has since diminished.

Microsoft itself has priced Kinect at $149.99, though it subsequently insisted the listing was nothing but a placeholder”.
