Shovel Knight becomes the first indie game Amiibo

Nintendo’s increased fraternising with the indie community has been stepped up with confirmation of the first Amiibo based on an indie title.

The game in question is Shovel Knight. It’s the first non-first party figure from the company to appear outside of the Smash Bros range. There are also some Skylanders cross-over Amiibos on the way, of course.

The figure itself will unlock new stages and equipment in both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, as well as a co-op mode in the console release.

The Amiibo can currently be pre-ordered from GAME, with a release date pencilled in for November 27th.

The news was prematurely announced by GAME on Twitter, but an official reveal came by way of a Yacht Club Games video which you can see below:
