Soedesco inks EA deal; brings Wuppo to Origin Access

Dutch publisher Soedesco has announced its ‘quirky action platformer’ Wuppo is available on EA’s Origin store for purchase, as well as via the Origin Access subscription package.

This marks the first of Soedesco’s titles to make its way to EA’s storefront, a huge step for the Rotterdam company, founded in 2002.

Wuppo was developed by Dutch outfit Knuist en Perzik and has, as you would assume, already seen release on more traditional online outlets like Steam. There the quirky platformer (with RPG elements, natch) has been very well received, currently sitting on 90 per cent positive reviews on the storefront from just over a thousand players.

Hans van Brakel, executive manager at Soedesco, was quoted as saying: “We are proud that Wuppo has become a part of Origin Access as the first Soedesco game ever. After all, this means that a very broad audience can now enjoy this wonderful indie.”

EA’s Origin store has been evolving apace with features like Access being added – and it doesn’t end there, with Access Premier (announced at E3) bringing major titles from the publisher to subscribers from their day of release.

The Soedesco news, though, shows it isn’t just the big publishers who are benefiting from building up these Steam alternatives – the smaller fish can get in on the action too, even on EA-branded framework.
