Software Sales Monitor: Market dips to £13.3m

The launch of PlayStation Vita wasn’t enough to prevent a drop in sales last week, though a handful of exclusive games made it into the All Formats Top 40.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football topped the charts at No.1 and No.2 respectively. The pair made up half of Vita’s week-one console sales. Rayman Origins saw sales surge 197 per cent after the Vita version hit shelves, while EA console shooter Syndicate hit No.7.

The UK games retail market value dropped five per cent from 14m to 13.3m for the week ending February 25th, and unit sales dipped ten per cent to 555,632 games, despite several new releases arriving in stores.

Additionally, in terms of hardware sales, the 229.99 PS?Vita Wi-Fi model accounted for 79 per cent of the console’s launch week sales, while the 279.99 3G version made up 21 per cent.
