Starbound leaves Early Access, full release coming this month

Space sandbox title Starbound is leaving Steam Early Access after two and a half years.

This news was announced via developer Chucklefish’s website, which says that Starbound is launching on July 22nd.

The developer notes that though the game will be officially out after this point, it will continue to update Starbound over time.

While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’tthe end," the firm said on its website.

"We will continue to update and support Starbound for as long as we can. We’ve got loads of cool ideas we couldn’t fit into 1.0 but hope to put into future updates.Thanks again for all your support over the years! You’ve stuck with us, and it means so much.

Starbound launched on Steam Early Access on December 4th, 2013, and within a month of release had sold 1m copies.

The firm spoke to MCV in 2014 about how crowdfunding, Early Access and its community was helping Starbound come together.
