Steam surpasses 8.5m concurrent users

Concurrent users on Steam topped 8.5m earlier today, setting yet another record for the digital distributor.

It was reported just last week that Steam had hit 8,357,541 concurrent users, which at the time was the most Valve’s service had ever experienced.

Today however, the Steam stats page shows concurrent users topping out at 8,512,371 – beating out last week’s total by nearly 200,000 individuals.

Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive continue to thrive as the two most played products on Steam over the past several weeks. In fact, the curent top four games in terms of player count are all directly developed or published by Valve itself.

Valve announced in September that more than 100m Steam accounts had been registered for the service.
