Take-Two acquires WWE game license

Take-Two has announced that it has acquired the video game license for WWE after previous publisher THQ went out of business.

Future games are likely to be published by Take-Two’s 2K division. The 2K Sports publishing label is well renowned for its quality sports games such as the NBA 2K series, and WWE could well find its home under this label.

We can confirm that we have entered into an agreement to publish the WWE video game series that is developed by Yukes,” Take-Two told Polygon, suggesting that long-time developer Yukes will continue to develop future WWE games.

The transfer of the WWE license to Take-Two is currently held up in legal proceedings as the now shuttered THQ owed WWE and Yukes millions of dollars in payments.

While this means that it could be a while before another WWE game sees the light of day, fans will be pleased to see the franchise finally find a home.
