The Last of Us: Remastered offers optional 30fps lock

PS4 owners will have the option of locking The Last of Us: Remastered to 30fps, developer Naughty Dog has said.

Community and PR bod Arne Meyer told an audience at an event attended by Eurogamer Spain that players will be free to toggle between an unlocked 60fps and a locked 30fps.

With 60fps being the far superior option why would a game offer this? Typically only if it struggles to maintain a smooth 60fps. When this happens and framerates fluctuates it can cause image stuttering and it may be preferable to lock a title at a steady and reliable 30fps.

That was certainly true of fellow PS4 title Killzone Shadow Fall, for which a 30fps lock was introduced post-release via a patch.

InFamous: Second Son also offered the same option.

The Last of Us: Remastered will be released in the UK on August 1st.
