Time called on Star Wars Galaxies

Publishers Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts have announced that as of December 15th 2011 long-running MMO Star Wars Galaxies will be no more.

Subscriptions for the game are no longer available and its associated digital store has been closed.

Current subscribers will be offered a free two-month trial on any of the following titles: Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, DC Universe Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II or Free Realms.

Describing later this year as "the appropriate time" to call it quits, a statement claimed: We are extremely grateful to all of the SWG fans.

"We have had the rare opportunity to host one of the most dedicated and passionate online gaming communities and we truly appreciate the support we’ve received from each and every one of you over the course of the past eight years.”

We’re going to end with a bang and we want the final chapter of the galaxy to be written in part by the dedicated and passionate SWG community. Details will be announced at a later date.”
