Twitch announces campaign to celebrate Pride Month

Twitch has announced a substantial campaign to celebrate Pride Month, showcasing LGBTQ+ creators in the Twitch community and reaffirming their support by marching in the San Francisco Pride March, releasing new Pride-themed emotes and supporting several charities.

“Our community is strongest and our creators make the best content when everyone on Twitch feels like they belong and can be themselves,” said Brittany Brown, Community Campaign Manager at Twitch. “Since diversity and inclusivity are core principles of Twitch, we have planned an entire month of events and fundraisers dedicated to promoting and maintaining these values.”

As a result, they’ll be featuring a different LGBTQ+ creator for every day in June, which should funnel viewers (and the donations and subscriptions that accompany that) to these creators.

In addition, the streaming giant will be fundraising for the Human Rights Campaign via four new t-shirts that Twitch will be selling showcasing gay, bisexual, transgender and lesbian flags. Twitch is also partnering with It Gets Better to create a video showcasing the coming out stories of several Twitch employees Twitch employee’s stories of coming out, with the aim of inspiring LGBTQ+ youths around the world

It’s a positive step, and it’s good to see a company not just encouraging diversity but going further than mere goodwill and actually pushing money towards diverse creators.
