Ubisoft boss "can’t say he’s happy" with Wii U launch price

Yves Guillemot has admitted that he would have preferred Nintendo to launch with a lower price for the Wii U.

The console arrives in North America this weekend and then in the UK on November 30th. Typical prices as of right now start at around 250 for the (hard to find) Basic Pack and come in at between 300-400 for the assortment of Premium SKUs currently available.

"I always prefer lower pricing, so I can’t say I’m happy," Ubisoft’s CEO told Games Industry.

"I’m never happy when the machines are expensive. What we have to do there is remember that compared to an iPad, it’s cheap. With what it brings [to the gaming table] it’s cheap. But I hope they’ll be able to drop their price in time."

Nintendo infamously cut the price of the 3DS just five months after it was launched, though this was more notable for being overtly atypical of Nintendo. Wii, for instance, held its launch RRP for five years before Nintendo saw fit to drop it.

The machine’s Q4 sales will undoubtedly be the determining factor.
