UFC licence switch leads to San Diego studio job losses

THQ laid off the entire staff of its San Diego office today.

Reports surfaced ontwittereariler this evening, claiming the layoffs were timed to coincide with press coverage of the E3 conference taking place in L.A. this week.

THQ has taken massive hits financially in recent years, and has closed several studios, sold IP, and taken desperate corporate restructuring measures in order to cut costs.

"THQ confirms that today’s announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company’s San Diego studio,” THQ vice president of communication Angela Emery toldGamesBeat.

THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA."
