UK CHARTS: Pokemon triumphs

Nintendo can celebrate a double triumph this morning with confirmation from UKIE GfK Chart-Track that Pokemon White and Pokemon Black have claimed first and second spots respectively in the UK charts.

It’s the biggest release ever for a Pokemon title and the second biggest launch ever for a DS game. If you combine sales of the two SKUs then it becomes Nintendo’s third biggest UK launch ever behind Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii.

EA’s new release, Fight Night Champion, debuts in third place behind the pair.

Last week’s number one, Sony’s Killzone 3, falls to fifth position in its second week, one place behind last week’s number two Bulletstorm.

The next new entry is all the way down in 17th – THQ’s Dawn of War II: Retribution. It’s joined by Trion Worlds’ fellow debutant Rift at number 19.

Further down the listings there are re-entries for Fallout: New Vegas (33rd), Football Manager 2011 (37th), Batman: Arkham Asylum (38th) and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (40th).

Here’s the UK Top Ten in full (for the week ending March 5th):
1. Pokemon White Version (Nintendo)
2. Pokemon Black Version (Nintendo)
3. Fight Night Champion (EA)
4. Bulletstorm (EA)
5. Killzone 3 (Sony)
6. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
7. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)
8. FIFA 11 (EA)
9. Dead Space 2 (EA)
10. Wii Party (Nintendo)
