UK software sales monitor: Market makes £9.64m

It’s no surprise that the UK games retail market has suffered its worst week in a long time – ten years, in fact.

9.64m was generated from game sales last week, ten per cen down week-on-week.526,351 game units were sold – again, the lowest amount since the summer of 2001.

This has been a long time coming. A combination of economic pressures and a rather sparse release schedule have had a negative impact, as did last week’s riots and looting.

As a result of a practically vacant release schedule, it was Zumba Fitness that took the No.1 spot, again. 3DS software saw an uplift week-on-week thanks to the console’s price cut.

Today’s release line-up (Friday, August 19th) is also looking pretty sparse, so the market is unlikely to grow. However, the following week should see some growth when Deus Ex reaches retail.
