Microsoft has revealed new details on Windows 10, including word that universal Windows apps will hit Xbox One with the arrival of the firm’s upcoming operating system.

At its Windows 10 event today in Seattle, Microsoft’s head of Windows division Terry Myerson confirmed the company’s plans for universal apps for the OS across computers, tablets, phones and Xbox One consoles.

"With Windows 10, universal Windows apps come to Xbox One," Myerson said.

Myerson also revealed existing Windows 7, 8.1 and Phone 8.1 users will be offered Windows 10 as a free upgrade for one year after launch.

  • Microsoft’s voice-powered digital assistant Cortana will be included in the OS.
  • Microsoft hopes to turn Windows into a service according to Myerson, who called Windows 10 one of the largest internet services on the planet.”
