Update: Grand Theft Auto 5 price to remain Rs 2,999

Update:Grand Theft Auto 5distributor E-xpress Interactive has told MCV that it has not announced a price hike for the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 5, adding that support from Rockstar Games has helped keep the Indian price unchanged.

So, theGrand Theft Auto 5 standard edition will remain at Rs 2,999, although the special edition may well increase in price from the Rs 3,799 that E-xpress had announced.

Original story: Grand Theft Auto 5 has been subjected to another price hike just a week before release, once again thanks to the depreciating Rupee.

The Standard Edition, which initially went up for preorder at Rs 2,799, was recently raised to Rs 2,999. It’s now priced at Rs 3,299.

Rs 3,299, incidentally, was the initial preorder pricing for the Special Edition. That was then raised to Rs 3,799, and it is now priced at Rs 3,999.

Last week, Sony too increased prices of its PS3 games to Rs 3,499, and it is expected that more publishers will follow suit.

Grand Theft Auto 5 releases on 17th September for Xbox 360 and PS3.
