UPDATED: GRID 2 will follow F1 2012 release, could launch this year

While Codemasters is officially working on F1 2012 for the fall, a new report claims the racing developer is also working on GRID 2 for release sometime after.

CVG reports the latest OXM rumours page reveals that the original GRID team is in high gear developing the sequel to the 2008 hit.

"The GRID team at Codemasters is actively working on GRID 2," reads OXM. "It’s likely to arrive after the release of F1 2012."

F1 2012 is currently targeted for September of this year, so a holiday release would be in the realm of possibility (if it all proves to be true). No word from Codemasters yet on the currently unannounced title, but we’ll have our eyes peeled.

UPDATE: Codemasters originally revealed they were working on a GRID sequel to our sister site Develop back in 2010. That appears to be the last official mention of the game until OXM’s report. So consider the quote a reconfirmation that the game is still in the works. Apologies for theomission.
