US: Sony brings MTV to PSN

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced a new partnership with MTV Networks that will see a range of programmes made available through the PlayStation Network.

The announcement was made during SCEA’s keynote speech at CES 2009, and revealed the first wave of entertainment, comedy and children’s programmes that gamers will be able to purchase and download to their PS3 or PSP.

The initial line-up will launch in February and will include MTV’s The City, Comdey Central’s South Park, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants and VH1’s Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels.

As new shows premiere in the spring, they will also become available on PSN, which is already home to almost 1,200 movies and over 3,000 TV episodes.

SCEA’s senior vice president of marketing and PSN Peter Dille said: We’re thrilled to add content from MTV Networks to our line-up, it’s a perfect fit for the PlayStation demographic, one of the most coveted audiences in entertainment today.

Combined with the superior technology of the PS3 and PSP, the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service truly provides consumers the best and most comprehensive content on demand from an incredible line-up of entertainment brands to enjoy at home or on-the-go.”

MTV Networks’ executive vice president of digital distribution and business development Greg Clayman added: From Nickelodeon to TV Land and everywhere in between, MTV Networks’ brands feature some of the most popular shows and some of the hottest stars for almost every conceivable demographic.

By making our diverse content line-up available through the PlayStation Netwrok, we’re giving PlayStation users instant access to hundreds of hours of our very best programming in the comfort of their own living rooms.”
