VIDEO: Rebellion is bringing back Atari tank title Battlezone as VR game

UK developer Rebellion is reviving Atari tank combat game Battlezone as a virtual reality title.

The firm – best known for its Sniper Elite series – is rebooting the classic title for a variety of VR hardware.

So far, Battlezone is confirmed for PlayStation 4 and PC, meaning we’ll probably see the game use Sony’s Morpheus tech for PS4, as well as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive for PC.

Gone are the green vector lines from the original release, replaced with fully fleshed out graphics.

"When the original Battlezone came out in 1980 – long before we were developing games – Chris and I were among the many who made up its loyal arcade following," said Rebellion boss Jason Kingsley.

"When we acquired the Battlezone rights two years ago we almost had to pinch ourselves! It really was a dream come true, so it’s our aim to deliver the same revolutionary thrill of the original for a whole new generation. We want to use VR to truly capture the imagination of today’s gamers, just as the original Battlezone captured ours."
