VIDEO: See some of Frostbite 3’s advanced features

EA has released a video detailing some of the technical advances made possible with its new Frostbite 3 engine.

The software will allow developers to trust the game environment to react accordingly. For instance, a large explosion will cause ripples of movement in the surrounding vegetation.

There will also be consistency across the game world. The same weather conditions that cause the trees to sway will also dictate the direction in which the clouds are blown.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect detailed in the video is the new water systems. Players taking to the waves – be it swimming or in a vehicle – will have to deal with the erratic swell of the water. Furthermore, these effects will be consistent across all players in multiplayer scenarios. In other words, the same waves will appear at the same time to all players.
