Wii U GameCube controller adapter revealed

Nintendo has revealed an adapter that allows GameCube controllers to be used with the Wii U.

The hardware was announced in a new Super Smash Bros video, which you can see below. It brings yet more functionality once seen in the Wii to its struggling successor.

The adapter has ports at the front for four GameCube pads and then attached to the Wii U via USB. Note that it is pictured using both of the console’s front USB ports in an image released on Twitter by Nintendo of America.

What hasn’t been revealed, however, is when the device will be released, how much it will cost and how consumers will be able to obtain it. One would suspect that the limited appeal of such a peripheral might mean it will have to be purchased directly from Nintendo.

Super Smash Bros will be released on Wii U is due out on 3DS this summer and on Wii U this winter.
